Spirit Of The Living God (2/10/15)

Good Morning Friends!

I was so touched by this on the news – you could see the spirit of life, of God, in this young woman. Please click on the link below to read Scott Pelley, a news anchor from CBS News, discuss “Kayla Mueller Was A Light In The Darkness.”

Thinking about prayer this morning. Prayers brings us openness and new depths of understanding and insight. This has been a favorite prayer for many years. I invite you to read it slowly and aloud to yourself.

A Gathering Prayer by George Appleton

Give me a candle of the spirit, O God
as I go down into the deep of my own being
Show me the hidden things. Take me
down to the spring of my life, and
tell me my nature and my name.
Give me freedom to grow so that I
may become my true self – the
fulfillment of the seed which you
planted in me at my making.
Out of the deep I cry unto thee, O God.
Amen.

I believe that five minutes of early morning prayer can make a difference in our lives as we go through the day, opening us to the mystery of God, letting God take our self off our hands. We can be more compassionate and wise in the way we relate to others. We can be more carefree, spontaneous and loving.

“To discover God is not to discover an idea but to discover oneself. It is to awaken to that part of one’s existence which has been hidden from sight and which one has refused to recognize.”
-Taken from Awakening by Bede Griffiths

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
-1 COR 3:16

With you in awakening to who we are in God and to who God is in us here and now.

We are all sparks of the Divine flame
Blessed Be
Compassionate Be
Boldly Be

Teach Only Love (11/28)

“If the doors of perception were cleansed
everything would appear to us as it is, infinite.”
-William Blake

A good friend of mine says that we all have our “goggles” on, our individual doors of perception, meaning that we are prone to seeings things as we are and not as they are in reality, that our vision is greatly influenced and distorted by our race, our religion, our family of origin, and our politics and that until we understand that we are “blind guides” to use a phrase that Jesus used, we are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

Does anyone believe that if a black policeman had killed a white boy in Ferguson that things would have played out as they have? The Supreme Court, led by Justice Roberts, has indicated that race is no longer an issue in our country. We have clear evidence to the contrary.

“As a man thinks in his heart so is he.” [Proverbs 23:7]

And this is why we need the prayer: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of they Spirit.

How can we cleanse the doors of our perception?

How can we cleanse our goggles?

How can we cleanse the thoughts of our hearts?

Please listen below with an open heart.

“When the Jew, the Christian, the Muslim, the Hindu and the Buddhist open themselves in prayer, in meditation, to the transcendent mystery, going beyond the world, beyond thought, simply opening themselves to the light, to the truth, to the reality, then the meeting takes place. That is where humanity will be united. Only through transcendence can we find unity.”
